I received this really cute series of interview questions by a fb channel called Connected TV Show [link]

Name: Lukas Kuhn

Location: Germany
Occupation: Student
Website: www.artstation.com/lukaskuhn

When and how did you get started in art?
I started drawing as a small child, like most kids do. I just happened to stick with it and when teachers started noticing and pointing it out, I kept at it even more. I remember getting criticized for using up too much of the free paper in the classroom. That's when you know you're on to something.

What was your first creation that made you know you had talent?
When classmates in third grade started asking me to draw an anime cat for them, I understood I had something others wanted hehe.

What artists have inspired you?
I fall in love with a new artist every month. There are so many incredibly skilled and hard working artists out there, each with their own unique style and perfect in their own way. That said, I think "Benjamin" Zhang Bins slice-of-life comicbooks are some of my favorite. I cannot wrap my mind around how he uses color to communicate emotions, it is real art to me.

What characters are you planning for the future and type of character are you drawn to?
It's less characters and more settings that I find myself drawn to. Maybe it's due to growing up in rural Germany, but I have a special place in my heart for timbered buildings. The more crooked and cozy, the better. That said, I still always fall for the strong independent archetype. :-) (Smile)

What are you listening to?
While working, I prefer OSTs that make it hard to notice how time flies. In my last session, I almost finished an entire 10 hour cut of "The First Layer" from Made in Abyss.

Favorite Movies?
Oldboy (2003), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... it's become harder to recall all the great movies I've seen since I stopped buying blu-rays and settled for digital. Now I can't just turn around and see them all on the shelf.

Favorite Animes?
The three Berserk movies, any Makoto Shinkai and as of most recent, Made in Abyss. Kill la Kill is a guilty pleasure of mine, aswell.

Favorite TV Shows?
Fargo Season 1, no doubt. Jessica Jones S1 close second.

Is there a scene from a anime, cartoon, movie or tv show that left a big impression on you and what was it?
In Final Fantasy 9, when the player arrives in Burmecia is a really magical moment that I keep coming back to in my own fiction. I think every piece of media has this one scene you think of first, so this would probably just be list of those key moments from the list of movies above.

Books?
Noah Gordons "The Physician", anything by Phillip K Dick and William Gibson, sometimes a little Lovecraft. I remember reading Michael Marraks "Morphogenesis" when I was an edgy teen and thinking it's incredible, only to find out that it has a horrible rating online years later and I must have been wrong.

Games?
OH BOY. As mentioned, I played Final Fantasy 9 when I was very young and I think it informed a lot of the things I enjoy these days. As of recent, Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, Hellblade, Nier: Automata, Hollow Knight... this could be a whole interview on its own haha.

Beverage?
Fruitjuice stuff! I like to try and combine different flavors all the time, but I should just buy a cocktail recipe book.

Fast Food/ Junk Food of choice?
Cooking healthy is a lot of fun and rewarding when there is time. Oftentimes, there is not and in those times there is Pizza, Lasagne or thai takeout.

Candy bar?
KitKat.

Favorite Breakfast cereal?
I like those cereals that advertise being super healthy, yet always buy the edition that has chocolate in it. Its probably not any more healthy than sweet cornflakes, but the packaging sure soothes my bad conscience.

What was your favorite toy growing up?
Lego.

Who is your biggest character crush and why?
Chie, hope you're doing fine babe, wherever you are. Never stop chasing your dreams with that big fat smile.

You enter a warehouse. There is little light, but you are able to find your way around. The sound of music draws you to a corner of the warehouse. There are FIVE GHOUL CLOWNS, playing a dancing video game. They have razor sharp teeth and scary weapons. Magic can not affect them; they sense your presence and turn facing you. They run to you to attack. Time to fight! What character would you want to be to defeat them and how would you handle the situation?
Of course I would need Peter Quill aka Star-Lord to challenge the Ghouls to a Dance-Off, Bro. "Uhh, child, things will get briighter~"

If you had to be chained with a character for one year, what would be the character and what would you do?
It'd be one of the boring side characters that play videogames a lot and don't constantly rescue the world.

You can have dinner with your favorite character. And at this dinner you may ask one question. Who would be the character and what would be your one question?
That would have to be Geralt of Rivia and I'd ask him to record the message for my phone answering machine.

What's number 1 on your bucket list? (Something you want to do before you leave the planet).
Something way out of my comfort zone like sky diving. I would probably puke and hate it but remember it fondly for the rest of my life.

What advice would you give to people getting started in art?
Learn the basics and take your time, dont rush or go for speed. Dont stress about a style, style is your own uniqe lense through which you see the world, so it will come on its own. You are not defined by your work. Remember to take care of your body. If you want to do this as a job, its a small industry and most positions are taken so keep a plan B. Have fun :) (Smile)
